During my time at Oxbridge Academic Programs in Barcelona, I took architecture as a minor to further explore this field given the city's rich architectural history.
We visited and learned about many of Gaudi's works including Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo and La Pedrera – Casa Mila. Gaudi’s architecture, fascinating with its curves and free flowing style, was very different to much of the architecture I had seen before.
We worked in pairs to construct a monument inspired by his works. We designed an asymmetrical, angular structure with a combination of closed and open elements. The façade is also uneven creating a visually dynamic effect. We used vellum to create a luminous effect when the model was lit from within in the dark.
This experience allowed me to get a better understanding of the role and importance of engineering in making beautiful designs a reality.
